Russia should introduce parental leave after the birth of a child. This was announced on December 8 by Vitaly Milonov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee for Family Protection, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

"I consider this initiative to be very correct as an opportunity, not as a mandatory vacation, but as a possible vacation, so that, God forbid, not to violate the property rights of fathers, because what kind of vacation it will be — paid, unpaid, on account of the main vacation or additional," he said.

The parliamentarian noted that it would be right for the employer to give the father a few days or a week off so that he could help the child's mother during the most difficult period.

Svetlana Bessarab, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, said on October 30 that about 40 thousand men are on parental leave in Russia. However, she noted that the mentality of Russian men does not always allow them to take on this responsibility so that a woman can continue to build a career.

Earlier, on October 20, it was reported that a group of deputies would submit to the State Duma a bill on granting seven days of additional paid leave for fathers of newborn children. At the suggestion of the legislators, it will be possible to take advantage of the leave upon written application once a year from the date of the child's birth.
