Science for enemies: an anti-UAV squad is being created in the BARS-Kursk brigade
A detachment of unmanned systems is being created in the BARS-Kursk volunteer brigade, Izvestia has learned. The unit will essentially become a field laboratory for testing the latest robotics, communications systems, electronic warfare and reconnaissance, and mine clearance, experts believe. The best of them will then enter service with the Russian army. The new UAV detachment as part of the brigade will improve the work on repelling the barbaric attacks of the enemy, which will ensure the real security of the Kursk region, the regional authorities are confident.
Testing platform
A high-tech unit within the BARS-Kursk volunteer brigade is creating the Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies (CBST). The detachment will become a platform for testing the latest communication systems, electronic warfare (EW) and reconnaissance (RER), microelectronics, robotics, mine clearance systems and situational awareness software systems. He will also be responsible for countering enemy UAVs, the CBST told Izvestia.
— Today, in the SVO zone, the winner is the one who implements technologies faster in real combat conditions, and we assume the role of the driver of these solutions. Combining engineers, entrepreneurs and fighters into one unit is an example of the effective integration of civilian competencies into the defense circuit," Alexander Sidyakin, Secretary of the Supervisory Board of the CBST, head of the Central Election Commission of the United Russia party, told Izvestia.
According to him, the project should increase the security of Russian regions and help them respond quickly to threats of UAV attacks.
Not just a division is being created, but a field technological testing ground, said Andrey Bezrukov, Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
— Here engineers, operators, specialists in artificial intelligence, communications, electronic warfare and microelectronics will be able to test their developments in real conditions, adapt them and instantly bring them to the required level, — said Andrey Bezrukov. — Such a combination of "field tests – refinement – immediate application" is critically important in order to counter modern threats, primarily enemy unmanned systems. Where solutions should appear quickly, we make them faster.
Recruitment of volunteers for the squad will begin next week. Those who sign the contract will receive a full package of benefits and combat veteran status in six months.
— Security issues for the Kursk region are in special focus today, and our BARS-Kursk volunteer brigade provides significant support in ensuring it. The new UAV squad as part of the brigade will improve the work on repelling the barbaric attacks of the enemy. Every day we record air threats from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ukronazis are viciously attacking our infrastructure and our people. New methods to repel these attacks will ensure the real security of our region," Alexander Khinshtein, Governor of the Kursk Region, told Izvestia.
Innovation Squad
The new UAV squad can become a field laboratory for testing the latest weapons systems, military expert Yuri Lyamin told Izvestia.
— It will not appear in the Kursk region by chance, — he believes. — The region is under attack by drones almost daily. Copters are operating in the border areas, and aircraft-type UAVs are trying to strike deep into the region. The enemy is concentrating significant resources to attack the region and must be resisted.
There is actually a drone war going on now, the expert recalled.
— If we want the LEOPARD to be effective in modern military confrontation, it must have a strong unmanned component, — said Yuri Lyamin. — First of all, of course, intelligence and anti-drone, to have effective electronic warfare and REM systems. In this case, the squad will be able to increase the effectiveness of the fight against drones in the region in the near future. At the same time, BARS-Kursk will become a modern and efficient compound, with good equipment and weapons.
The development of new mine clearance systems will also be useful, the expert noted.
— After the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the border areas of the region, there were many minefields and unexploded ordnance that must be destroyed. The new technology will help to do this," said Yuri Lyamin.
The LEOPARDS are strengthening
Volunteer units of the LEOPARD territorial defense in the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions bordering Ukraine, as well as in Crimea and Kaliningrad, were established last year. They are formed according to the territorial principle of recruitment, volunteers serve only in their regions. The most important role was played by a detachment in the Kursk region, from which Russian troops knocked out units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The volunteers included in BARS are engaged in the protection and defense of important infrastructure facilities, the fight against drones, the identification of enemy sabotage groups, and the provision of a counter-terrorism operation (CTO) regime.
This year, tanks were put into service with the territorial defense units of the LEOPARD for the first time. Previously, these formations were equipped with only light armored vehicles.
Izvestia wrote that during the training camps held in the Kaliningrad region, tank units consisting only of reservists were formed and trained.
Having received heavy armored vehicles, volunteer detachments will have the opportunity to fight on equal terms with any enemy forces if they try to break into the territory of the Russian regions. Combat vehicles can support infantry, attack enemy fortifications, and destroy armored vehicles.
This reinforcement is due to the specifics of the tasks they perform. Tanks are increasingly being used to support infantry units. BARS are primarily defensive units that need appropriate fire assistance.
