On Monday, November 24, the next lesson from the series "Conversations about important things" will take place in Russian schools and colleges. It will focus on the profession of a lifeguard, its role in ensuring the safety of citizens and the rules of conduct in an emergency situation. Izvestia tells us how the lesson will go in different classes.

"Talking about important things" on November 24 — the topic of the lesson

The topic of the lesson is "Profession — saving lives." Its purpose is to form students' ideas about the value of human life, the importance of charity and mutual assistance.

During the conversation, students will get acquainted with one of the key professions for the state and society, as well as the main functions of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Management (EMERCOM of Russia).

This agency, established in 1994, ensures the safety of citizens throughout the country. Its official symbol, the "White Star of Hope and Salvation", represents the path and hope, and the four long rays symbolize the ability of the Russian department to perform its functions in all directions. It accurately reflects the essence of the work of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and its motto — "Prevention, rescue, help."

The courage and professionalism of Russian rescuers are known all over the world. Russia is actively involved in international humanitarian and search and rescue operations, including in Algeria, Iran, Italy, Japan, Indonesia, Greece, Portugal, Israel, Serbia, Egypt, Turkey and many other countries. Over the 30 years of the agency's existence, more than 550 such operations have been carried out.

In addition, Russian rescuers have repeatedly won prizes at international competitions and competitions in fire and rescue sports. They also, like other representatives of professions, have their own professional holiday — Lifeguard Day. In 2025, it will be celebrated on December 27.

Traditionally, the announcement of the theme will be presented by the young actor Stanislav Solomatin, known for his roles in films and TV series. Mikhail Knyazev, a firefighter from the Specialized Kudryashov Fire and Rescue Unit in St. Petersburg, will join the class in a video interview. He will talk about his profession and how they become rescuers.

Practical exercises, presentations and videos adapted for schoolchildren of different ages will help to consolidate the topic. The recommended duration of the lesson is 30 minutes. Methodological materials and recommendations can be found on the project's website.

"Conversations about important things" November 24 — lesson program

For the youngest students (grades 1-2), the lesson will begin with watching a fragment of the animated series Arkady Parovozov. The guys will discuss who rescuers are, what their "superpowers" are and what they protect people from. They will be told that animals also help to save people, for example, dogs under the guidance of dog handlers.

Students of grades 3-4 will understand in more depth the personal qualities of rescuers: courage, determination, psychological stability. They will learn about examples of heroism, such as the feat of rescuer Mikhail Grachev from the Yaroslavl region, who saved three people in one day. The lesson will be complemented by a regional component — a conversation about local rescue services and their heroes.

In grades 5-7, the focus will shift to the history and modern development of rescue services in Russia. Students will get acquainted with the use of innovative technologies in rescue operations. Special attention will be paid to personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.

For high school students in grades 8-9, the lesson will be built around a discussion about the right to life and the role of the state in protecting this fundamental right. They will also discuss why rescuers are called heroes of our time, and consider how knowledge of chemistry, physics, medicine, and psychology helps rescuers in their work. During the lesson, students will talk about the international activities of Russian rescuers, and at the end, students will complete an interactive task.

Students of grades 10-11 and college students will analyze in detail the variety of professions in the structure of the Ministry of Emergency Situations: from firefighters and divers to pyrotechnics and psychologists. In addition, they will discuss the relationship between TRP standards and the physical fitness required in the profession, learn about modern technology and leading specialized educational institutions where you can train as a lifeguard, and complete a practical task to develop visual memory, a key skill for a lifeguard.

Thus, as a result of the lesson, students will form a holistic view of the lifeguard profession, its value and importance to society. They also update their knowledge of the rules of safe behavior.
