Finnish President Alexander Stubb called the postponement of the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Leader Donald Trump in Budapest an alleged strategic mistake by the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP).

"They had an opportunity, and they missed it," he said in an interview.

Sources from The Financial Times (FT) claimed that the decision to cancel the summit was made after a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which approaches to resolving the conflict in Ukraine were discussed.

Lavrov said on November 11 that Moscow was ready to return to preparing talks between Putin and Trump. He also noted that Budapest remains the preferred venue for talks between Putin and Trump.

Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on November 12 that the situation in relations between Russia and the United States could not be called a pause, as contacts between the countries were held at various levels. At the same time, according to him, the problems in relations between Russia and the United States are not being resolved as quickly as we would like.
