A meeting between Trump and Orban took place at the White House. The main thing
US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban held a meeting at the White House on November 7. During the conversation, the representatives of the states discussed the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, Russian energy resources, the nuclear sphere, as well as a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart in Budapest.
Settlement of the Ukrainian conflict
During the meeting, Trump and Orban focused on the topic of the Ukrainian conflict. According to the American leader, a settlement may occur in the "near future." He also said that former President of the United States Joe Biden sought to start a conflict in Ukraine, as a result of which the country became smaller due to the loss of some territories.
The Hungarian Prime Minister, in turn, pointed to the desire of the American and Hungarian sides to find solutions to the Ukrainian issue. He also noted Trump's "tremendous efforts." In addition, Orban clarified that Brussels and the European states have a different approach and do not seek a settlement. The Hungarian Prime Minister added that he would discuss the situation on the front line with Trump, and stressed that the Ukrainian conflict was a complex issue. In addition, Orban said that Kiev can win "only by a miracle."
Possible meeting between Putin and Trump in Budapest
The representatives of the two countries also discussed a possible meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States in Budapest. The American leader pointed out that there were chances for holding a summit. According to him, the reason that the meeting has not yet taken place is the continuation of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.
In addition, during the meeting with Orban, Trump stated that he intends to keep Budapest as the venue for the meeting with Putin. He noted that he would like the summit to be held in the Hungarian capital.
"If the meeting takes place, I would like to hold it in Budapest," Trump said.
The issue of energy resources
During the talks, the American leader and the Hungarian Prime Minister discussed the issue of Russian oil and gas supplies to Hungary. Orban said that 90% of Hungarian households are heated by gas, where the Turkish gas pipeline is the supplier. At the same time, oil is supplied via the Druzhba gas pipeline, which is the main source of supplies to the country.
Trump, commenting on the issue of sanctions against energy resources from the Russian Federation, noted that there is a possibility of exempting Hungary from restrictive measures.
"We are studying this issue because he (Orban. — Ed.) it is very difficult to get oil and gas from other countries, as you know, from them (Hungarians. — Ed.) there is no advantage in the form of access to the sea," the US president said.
Orban, in turn, said that Hungary has many ideas for cooperation with the United States, including economic and military spheres.
