The career guidance course "Russia — my Horizons" has started in Russian schools. All students in grades 6-11 will take it. About what "Russia is my horizons" is, whether it is possible to abandon the course and what the program will be in the current academic year — in the Izvestia material.

What is "Russia — my horizons"?

"Russia — My Horizons" is a career guidance course that is conducted for all Russian schoolchildren, students in grades 6-11. The training takes place after hours every Thursday of the academic year, and classes traditionally begin at 8:30 a.m. The program was launched in 2023. The project will take place for the third time in 2025.

Each lesson is adapted to the age of the student.

The purpose of the course is to help students choose their future profession and conduct professional diagnostics for them. In the classroom, teenagers are introduced to modern professions and the necessary skills for working in specialties, the needs of the federal and regional labor markets, and the country's achievements in science, technology, economics, and other fields. This year, classes in space technology, fintech, industrial design, and applied mathematics have been added to the course.

According to the work program, students watch videos, participate in discussions, complete assignments, analyze industries and professions, and prepare a list of questions for conversation with parents. The course includes both work under the guidance of a teacher and independent work. Also, depending on the capabilities of the school, they can arrange field lessons.

"The Russia — My Horizons course allows students starting in the sixth grade to get acquainted with the opportunities for development in Russia. Students from all over the country visit enterprises, factories, companies, colleges and universities to learn about how different promising areas of economics work and find a specialty they like," said Sergey Kravtsov, head of the Ministry of Education and Science, at an open lesson of the first All—Russian career Guidance Forum with the same name "Russia — My Horizons."

Is it possible to abandon "Russia — my horizons"?

Some children and their parents are dissatisfied with the course due to the additional workload: for some classes, the school day, taking into account these classes, reaches nine lessons.

Parents also have a question about the content of the program. For example, in the comments to recent posts by the Russia — My Horizons community on VKontakte, users are asking questions: "Why should children in the 10th grade be told about colleges and technical schools?", "Can a school force a student to attend this career guidance course in the ninth grade in the ninth lesson?".

— "Russia — my Horizons" is an extracurricular activity, it is not included in the curriculum, but it is recommended. There is not a single case of parents refusing to participate in the lyceum. But, of course, teachers are not so harsh if a child suddenly skipped class. Although I know that in some schools students write rejections of the course, after long attempts to convince them, they are allowed not to attend classes," Olga Tsareva, a teacher of history, law and social studies at the MAOU Lyceum in Lesnoy, Sverdlovsk Region, tells Izvestia.

Yulia Bodrova, a mathematics teacher at the MAOU Secondary School of Yekaterinburg No. 23, told Izvestia that she had not heard that any of the students or parents of their school had learned how to opt out of the program.

The Ministry of Education told Izvestia that an extracurricular activity plan is a mandatory part of the educational program, which schools develop and approve themselves. At the same time, it is necessary to attend classes.

Who should host "Russia — My Horizons"?

Classes are conducted by school teachers, most often classroom teachers. According to the legislation, additional payments are provided for this.

In addition, within the framework of the course, conversations with invited industry experts are possible, according to the work program. However, the teacher moderates the lesson.

What is the program of the course "Russia — my horizons" in 2025-2026?

In total, the course is designed for 34 classes, each of which lasts one academic hour. In one month, students will study mainly four topics. But in January, March and May there will be three classes each, and in April there will be five.

What is included in the regional course program?

In the 2025-2026 academic year, according to the lesson plan, up to 50% of the total number of classes in the course can be allocated for the implementation of the regional component. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Education. According to Ivan Yesin, Managing Director of the Foundation for Humanitarian Projects and head of the Unified Career Guidance Model Ticket to the Future, it is possible to devote 17 out of 34 hours to the regional specifics of the labor market. This academic year, courses are expected to be created from "dozens of subjects of the country," the expert said.

"The topics of sectoral classes at the regional level should primarily be related to the main branches of industrial and non-industrial spheres of economic activity of the subject of the Russian Federation and the variety of professions represented in them, taking into account the personnel forecast of the Ministry of Labor of Russia, as well as the program of socio—economic development of the subject of the Russian Federation," the methodological recommendations say.
