Syria has the right to defend the territory and people of its country from the actions of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) by all available means in accordance with international law. This was stated on August 26 in a statement by the Syrian Foreign Ministry, issued after the death of a citizen of the country during an Israeli operation in the province of Quneitra.

"The Syrian Arab Republic insists on its inviolable and legitimate right to defend its territory and its people by all means guaranteed by international law," the ministry said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

The aggressive actions are regarded by Damascus as a gross violation of the Charter of the United Nations (UN), international law and UN Security Council resolutions. They pose a direct threat to peace and security in the region, the country's Foreign Ministry said.

On August 24, President of the Syrian Arab Republic for the transitional period Ahmed al-Sharaa reported on the progress made at the negotiations between the Israeli and Syrian delegations on security. The head of state also said that he was ready "without hesitation" to accept any agreement or decision if it would meet the interests of the country and the region.

On August 19, Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov informed Izvestia about the contacts between Russia and Israel on Syria. According to him, during recent telephone conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, issues related to the situation in the Middle East, including the Syrian issue, were discussed.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
