The Federation Council approved an increase in payments to pregnant students and graduate students

Female students and graduate students will be able to receive maternity benefits, which will correspond to the level of the regional subsistence level. The relevant law was approved on Wednesday, July 16, at the plenary session of the Federation Council.

It is specified that the innovation will affect full-time students and postgraduates at the university, institutions of additional vocational education or scientific organizations.

At the moment, the allowance is paid in the amount of a scholarship for 140 days of maternity leave. Thus, the total monetary support now ranges from 9.3 to 23.3 thousand rubles, depending on the size of the scholarship.

The authors of the initiative indicated in the explanatory note that, taking into account the subsistence level in the region, the benefits will be an average of 90 thousand rubles. The law will enter into force on September 1, 2025, if signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
